Glaucoma Treatment

Because early detection is so important to limiting vision loss associated with glaucoma, we offer state-of-the-art computerized evaluation techniques and modern treatment options to detect early signs of optic nerve damage and peripheral vision loss.

If you have been told by your eye doctor that you have high intraocular pressure and might have glaucoma, don’t be discouraged—although there is no cure for glaucoma, there are several effective treatment options available.

MEDICATIONS

Many patients with glaucoma are treated with daily eye drops that decrease eye pressure either by slowing the amount of fluid produced within the eye or by improving drainage of that fluid.

LASER SURGERY

As eye care technology has advanced, it has opened up the door to even more effective forms of glaucoma treatment and management, including laser eye surgery:

  • Selective Laser Trabeculoplasty: This non-invasive, low-energy procedure heats an area of the eye to help open the drainage system. It is a quick procedure and may help reduce or eliminate the need for prescription eye drops.
  • Argon Laser Treatment: When medication and eye drops fail to provide significant results, your surgeon may use an argon laser to create more openings in the drainage pathways in your eye. This may prevent further loss of vision and delay the need for conventional glaucoma surgery for some time.
