Retina Treatment

The retina is essential to clear vision. To prevent retinal damage from causing extensive vision loss, our experienced doctors offer both laser eye surgery and retinopexy.

LASER EYE SURGERY

When retinal diseases such as diabetic retinopathy, damage blood vessels within the eye, the vessels may leak or grow abnormally. This can lead to blurry or severely limited vision. With laser procedures, including panretinal photocoagulation laser treatment (PRP) and focal laser treatment, our surgeons:

  • seal leaking blood vessels to reduce swelling of the macula (macular edema)
  • slow or stop the growth of abnormal blood vessels to decrease the chance of bleeding in the eye and scar tissue

RETINOPEXY

The abnormal growth of blood vessels can cause scar tissue to form that pulls the retina away from the back of the eye. This problem is called retinal detachment. Retinopexy is an outpatient procedure in which our surgeons inject a small gas bubble into the eye that floats to the detached area and presses lightly against it. The bubble remains for about 1 to 3 weeks until a seal forms between the retina and the back of the eye.
